Work Patterns: Report Overview and All Sections and Widgets

The Work Patterns report in Workalizer shows the same metric structure as the employee Performance Review but aggregated at team level. You see communication, initiative, schedule, time management, independent work, attendance, work-life balance, policy compliance, and AI adoption for the selected org unit (team). This report is part of the Reports area.

Report Access

Go to /work-patterns/. Select the Org Unit (team) and Period at the top. All sections and widgets apply to that team aggregate. For per-person detail use Performance Review for Employee; for manager time use Performance Review for Manager.

Functionality by Section

Communication

Team-level communication volume and distribution across channels and time. All widgets in this section support AI Insights.

  • Initiated Communication: Number of emails sent, chat messages initiated, and Google Meet sessions organized by the team—helps understand outbound communication activity.
  • Received Communication: Total emails received, chat messages received, and Meet sessions participated in—insight into incoming communication volume.
  • Sent vs Received Ratio: Compares volume sent versus received for the team; reflects communication balance and engagement.
  • By Activity Label: Documents, chat messages, and Meet sessions grouped by activity labels (e.g. Project Work, Admin, Support)—shows how communication is distributed across work types.
  • Meetings by Time Period: Number of meetings attended over time—assesses meeting load and time allocation.
  • By Weekdays: When communication happens most (by day of week)—identifies peak interaction times.
  • Chat Rooms by Message Volume: Most active chat rooms by posted messages—identifies the most engaged group conversations.

Initiative and Ownership

Content creation, ownership, and collaboration patterns for the team. Widgets support AI Insights.

  • Created Items by Type: Count of documents, meetings, events, and chat rooms created or initiated in Google Workspace—content creation and collaboration by type.
  • Most Popular Documents: Documents ranked by total interactions (views, edits, comments, downloads)—which assets get the most engagement.
  • Created Items by Activity Label: Created items grouped by activity label—how work is distributed across projects or initiatives.
  • Top Recurring Events and Meetings: Recurring meetings and events by activity label—how time is allocated to regular work activities.
  • User Activity on Resolving: Documents where comments or suggestions were resolved—collaborative problem-solving and review activity.
  • Doc Review Count: Document revision and review count before final version—collaborative editing and iterations.

Schedule and Punctuality

Where and when the team works, and how meetings are planned.

  • Work Location Breakdown: Time the team spends working from home vs office.
  • Workday Alignment with Team: Average workday start and end times for the team.
  • Planned vs Ad Hoc Meetings: Balance between planned and spontaneous meetings—meeting planning and coordination style.

Time Management

Working Time Allocation by Label: How working time is allocated across activity labels—counts for meetings (with duration), documents, chat messages, and calendar events, with comparisons to previous period and team averages. Supports AI Insights.

Independent Work

Files and time spent on individual and collaborative tasks.

  • Created and Owned Files: Total files the team has created and currently owns in Google Workspace.
  • Shared Files: How many files the team has shared internally and externally.
  • Time Spent on Activities: Time spent on independent tasks: emails, chat, document comments, meetings.

Attendance

Daily activity patterns and meeting attendance.

  • Activity Heatmap: Daily activity as a grid—each square is a day, color intensity is activity level across Gmail, Drive, and Chat; identifies patterns and trends.
  • Scheduled Meet Attendance Rate: How regularly scheduled meetings are attended—consistency in honoring commitments.
  • Workday Alignment with Team: Average workday start and end times for the team (also in Schedule).

Work-Life Balance

Signals for overtime and rest patterns.

  • Days with Extended Work Hours: Each workday as a colored square; highlights days with extended hours—patterns of overtime and workload balance.
  • Breaks During Work Indicator: Grid where color indicates whether breaks were taken during the workday—patterns in work and rest.

Policy Compliance

External sharing visibility.

  • Docs Shared Externally by Label: Number and types of files shared outside the organization by activity label—sharing patterns and potential risks.
  • Docs Shared Externally: How many documents were shared with people outside the organization—monitors external data sharing.

AI Adoption and Usage

Gemini usage across the team. All widgets support AI Insights.

  • Invocations by App: How often the team uses Gemini across Workspace apps and estimated collective time per app.
  • Invocations by Action: Usage by action type, grouped by period, with comparison to previous period.
  • Power AI Users: Users who actively use Gemini—invocation counts, time spent, comparisons to previous periods and team averages.
